Fall Is Coming…Let’s Get Outside!

There’s something special about fall in the Upper Peninsula. The air gets a little cooler, the days get shorter, and our forests begin to put on one of the best shows of the year. With fall just around the corner, there’s no better time to get outside and explore the trails in and around Gwinn. Whether you’re looking for a longer hike through the woods, a quick walk along the river, or an easy afternoon adventure, there are plenty of ways to experience the changing colors right here in Forsyth Township.

Anderson Lake Pathway

Just a short drive southwest of Gwinn, the Anderson Lake Pathway offers about six miles of trails divided into three loops. The rolling terrain takes you through dense northern forests, making it a great spot to experience the fall colors. Looking for a longer adventure? The different loops allow you to choose a hike that fits your day. The pathway is also popular for mountain biking and primitive backpacking.

Farquhar-Metsa Tourist Park

You don’t always have to go deep into the woods to enjoy the outdoors. Located right in Gwinn along the Escanaba River, Farquhar-Metsa Tourist Park offers shorter, easier walking paths with beautiful views of the water. This is a great option if you’re looking for a relaxing fall walk, want to bring the family, or just have a little time to get outside and enjoy the changing season.

Peter Nordeen Park

Peter Nordeen Park provides another easy opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. The park sits along the Escanaba River and offers short, flat walking paths that make it an easy stop for anyone looking to enjoy some fresh air and fall scenery. Sometimes exploring our wild and getting some fresh air doesn't have to mean going far. Some of the best outdoor experiences can be found right in our own backyard.

Take a Short Trip to Laughing Whitefish Falls

If you’re up for a little more of an adventure, Laughing Whitefish Falls is another great fall destination within driving distance of Gwinn. The short walk to the falls makes this an accessible way to experience one of the U.P.’s beautiful waterfalls, and the changing colors of the surrounding forest make fall an especially great time to visit.

One of the best things about living in the Upper Peninsula is how easy it is to get outside. You don't need an entire weekend or a complicated itinerary. Sometimes all it takes is an hour, a pair of comfortable shoes, and a trail you've never explored before.
